Education- It is our aim to provide assistance for educational services designed to increase a student's potential for future success such as; free school supplies, financial assistance with summer school, assistance with college enrollment fees, class fees, cap/gown for graduation fees, and much more.
Backpacks 4 Teens- Each year, Children of Promise provides disadvantaged youth with new backpacks full of school supplies such as scientific calculators, binders, permanent markers, dictionaries, paper, pens, dividers, etc. Children of Promise also delivers backpacks filled with supplies to selected schools. This allows students to discreetly ask teachers or counselors for needed items without fear of embarrassment or teasing from classmates.
Medical and Dental Program
Medical/Dental- Many teenagers in El Paso County are in need of basic medical exams and routine dental care. Some are also in need of major dental services which can impact self-esteem and school attendance. Children of Promise has created working relationships with many physicians, dentists and orthodontists who donate their time to examine and care for youth in their offices at little or no cost. If families cannot afford the low cost fee, Children of Promise will cover the cost to ensure youth are receiving the needed care.
Looking Good and Feeling Better Program
Everyday Wear-Children of Promise provides new and/or gently used clothing for teenagers in the Pikes Peak Region. Each teen that meets eligibility criteria is allowed to select up to three outfits at no cost. We believe that youth who have new clothes often feel better about themselves, and they are more likely to stay in school and make progress toward positive life goals.
Formal Wear- Each year, Children of Promise hosts a Prom Dress Fashion Event with over 800 new and gently used prom dresses. High school youth in El PasoCounty are able to come and rent a beautiful formal gown for only $20.
Interview Wear- Youth who begin the search for thier first job are sometimes at a lost in how to dress for a job interview. The Teen Shop allows teens to shop for an appropiate interview outfit with the consultation of a personal shopper.
Winter Coat Wear- During the cold months, Children of Promise visits local high schools and youth shelters to deliver winter coats for youth in need. Hats, gloves and scarves are also provided.
Holiday Gifts for Teens
Holiday Gifts- During the month of December, hundreds of youth are provided with three or four gifts throughout the holiday season. Children of Promise believes everyone should feel loved at the holiday season, even teens.
Sports Participation Program
Many teens are unable to participate in school sports because they cannot afford the participation fee or equipment. In 2008, Children of Promise began a new program that allowed youth to borrow sports equipment and uniforms. Youth are then able to participate in school sports throughout the year. Students may also apply for financial assistance with participation fees and assistance with receiving free sports physical.
